Rookie designers help Elle get its togs in a twirl
The new kids on the Elle Fashion Week block showed dab tailoring in their gear for autumn and winter over the weekend, but they haven't quite scaled the excitement meter yet. The government's Department of Export Promotion added to the Fashion Week array with "Designer's Room: Now", giving rookie designers a chance to shine. Eight young pretenders from six brands stepped up to the plate for Sunday's show - Piyada and Chalermkiat Khatikasemlert with Wonder Anatomie, Tanyapat Srivisarkron for Paul B, Siriorn Teankaprasith's Painkiller, Sipphanan Shopthang with Ziff, Purinutt Wongsathapornsakun's Innocence, and Naronrid Panyamang and Manop Chaiyuen for Under Dog Fight Back. Distinctive in its patches and scrollwork, Wonder Anatomie showed attractive chiffon evening gowns with eye-catching black accessories in the same pattern. Black, grey and blue were the main tones. Ziff went for ruffled ballerina tutus rounded at the hips, and pleated dresses in layers with puffs on the sleeves and legs. There was a tailored-with-a-twist look in the embroidery, which twinkled with red sequins at the waist. The all-black outfits from Innocence boasted bows and pleats to lend femininity to plain chiffon and satin. Openings in the back had an impressively sexy impact when the model swung round. There were also long, loose suits. The growing importance of menswear on the catwalk was reflected by three of the new brands, with Paul B cutting its trousers tight and then angular above the ankles. Watch Dog Fight Back had its pooch in a black and white pattern on shirts, trousers, suits and shorts, with a tuxedo cummerbund adding to the elegant allure. Painkiller coloured the catwalk with original shades of blue, green and black in a cotton suit, pants jumped at the ankle and oversized bags.
