The Ploy Saeng Festival's new notions could benefit lots of people
Victor John proposes using the vacant areas beneath highway flyovers to promote social welfare. Another inventor offers "meditation jewellery" - polished rings and bracelets in soothing shapes. There's packaging for shipping mangoes to Japan that uses 100-per-cent-biodegradable material. These are among the highlights in "Creative Showcase", the third Ploy Saeng Festival at the Thailand Creative Design Centre on the sixth floor of the Emporium. Ploy Saeng gives young innovators a platform to show off their ideas, and the latest show has 150 projects ranging from architecture to agriculture. Maneeya Nakornchai, a student at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology at Lat Krabang, proffers peace in stressful times with her "Jewellery for Meditation". There's even "Pregnancy Jewellery" on offer.
Under space Victor John's "Exterior Perspective: Library Park" wants to put the wasted pavement under expressway flyovers to use as educational spaces, possibly outdoor libraries. Paper cut and folded into striking patterns is on view alongside an intriguing "Insulin Inhaler". You can see novel ideas for a very old health system in a display on Chinese herbal medicine. And the Education Ministry's Bureau of Vocational Education Research and Development is showing a robot with cutting-edge controls and sensors that make it a boon to rescue operations in the event of accidents. ON THE MOVE >> The Ploy Saeng Festival continues until Sunday at the Thailand Creative and Design Centre on the sixth floor of the Emporium. >> From Wednesday to July 16, the fest can be found on the Skywalk between the National Stadium Skytrain station and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.
