S-S-SCRATCH THAT CALL
Published on May 11, 2009
The Beat DJ, one of two models in Samsung's latest Beat edition of mobile phones, gives users the chance to create their own soundtracks. After downloading your favourite tunes you can add your own vocals and samples and then get "scratching" on the 2.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display. Its 50 megabytes of memory can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 16 GB.
Samsung Thailand is selling the Beat DJ for Bt12,500 with an 8GB microSD card.
IS IT A COMPACT OR AN SLR?
Pentax's new X70 is actually a bridge between a compact digital camera and a digital SLR. Impressive vital statistics include a 24x zoom lens (26mm-624mm), 2.7-inch LCD screen and 12.0 megapixels. It also features three layers of protection against blurred shots: mechanical shake reduction via an in-built gyro, digital shake reduction via high ISO and movie shake reduction for blur-free video capture. It will shoot 11 images a second and focus up to 32 faces within a single shot in 0.03 seconds. The video image quality is the same as high-definition TV - 1,280 x 720 pixels (15 frames per second). The X70 has a suggested retail price of Bt14,990.
SHOOTING FROM THE HIP
Canon have managed to squash their latest compact digital camera down to just 18 millimetres thick. The soft-edged IXUS 100 IS features 12.1 megapixel resolution and a 2.5-inch screen. It uses Canon's latest DIGIC 4 image processor and has a 3x optical zoom. Other highlights include a Smart Auto Shooting mode, blink detection, improved automatic ISO and high-definition movie recording function. Shutterbugs get four colours to choose from -- metallic silver, gold, red and matt black. The suggested retail price is Bt10,990. SLIM DOWN YOUR BILLS
Samsung's new LED technology means that its latest, slimmed-down 40-inch TV uses less juice. The energy-saving UA-40B7000W is less than 30mm thick and packs ultra-high contrast of 1:1,000,000 as well as a 100Hz Motion Plus feature. Along with four HDMI ports there's a USB port for playing video, or pictures via a USB drive. You can wire the beast up to your computer and Internet through the LAN port. Pay the man in the shop Bt90,000 and expect Bt10 in change.
