Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli needed camouflage on a recent visit to Bangkok
Victoria's Secret model and Leonardo's Di Caprio's girlfriend Bar Refaeli didn't want to talk about war when she was in town the other day. She was here to introduce Fox clothes from her homeland, Israel. So when Daily Xpress asked the 24-year-old about the controversy over her failure to serve as required in the Israeli Defence Force, she was a bit flummoxed. "I really wanted to serve in the IDF, but I don't regret not enlisting, because it paid off big-time," Refaeli had told the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth. "Why is it good to die for our country? Isn't it better to live in New York City?" The statement was bombshell in a country where military service is mandatory for everyone over 18, and turned toxic amid reports that Refaeli had dodged the army by marrying a family acquaintance and divorcing him soon after.
Enough already! Refaeli has since said the interview didn't accurately reflect her statements and threatened to sue the paper for libel. Hearing about it again from Daily Xpress didn't exactly make her day. "I try not to focus on the past," she said. "I'm here now, so I don't care what happened in the past. It doesn't really make a difference." Asked if she'd made the original statement or not, she said the matter was too complicated to explain briefly. "If I have to get into it, I have to spend at least six hours with you. It's not a yes-or-no question." Wearing army fatigues might be a clever choice for a future fashion shoot for Refaeli, who was the cover girl for this year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Her advice to would-be models? "Choose the right jobs to have a long-lasting career. Because some decisions will make your career very short, so you have to be careful what your choose - and you also have to have a lot of luck."
