Directors from GTH dig out their student shorts in hopes of inspiring a coming generation of filmmakers
Before they made such successful features as "Mak Tae" ("Lucky Losers"), "Fan Chan" and "15 Kham Duan 11" ("Mekhong Full Moon Party"), directors whose names weren't quite so well known as they are today had already come up with some fun flicks. Now short films by 12 GTH studio directors are being melded into "Young Dek", which is being screened for Children's Day on Saturday at 7pm at at SF World at CentralWorld. Jira Maligool says he wants to travel back in time with his director pals and relive the short films they made in college. Like most other student films, their movies were neither complicated nor beautiful. But they should be an inspiration to youngsters to start their own projects. "They'll say to themselves, 'if these directors made these films, then we can do it too'," says Jira. The 12 short films include Jira's "Nang San Mano Sa-re" (1981), Adisorn Trisirikasem's "Wan Pak Ti Rak Wun" (1996), Paween Phurijitpanya's "Antiseptic" (1998), Songyot Sukmak-anan's "Dor Dek Chor Chang" (2002), and Wittaya Thongyooyong's "Raan Nai Wattana" (1996). The last two picked up awards from the Thai Film Foundation.
